Disadvantages of LAN : Cons Limitations
Drawbacks of LAN
|
Distributed Data:
Data sharing in LAN is stored locally on each
computer in the networks if a machine is not turned
on, the other machines cannot navigate to the shared
files on that machine is.
|
The
safety and security is not high: The
security and safety can peer through specifying
the password for a certain resource, such
as a shared folder on the network. Since all users
in the peer network set up your own personal password
system, and the sharing of resources can
occur at any
machine not happen in your focus, it is
difficult to control focus. Moreover, the appearance of
the virus spreads through the dangerous, if a machine can
spread infection throughout the network, which
will greatly impact to system maintenance.
|
No corporate
governance and control users as well as manage the
computers in the network.
|
Power
- a good LAN is required to be on all the times.
|
Security
- each computer and device become another point of entry for undesirables.
|
Upkeep
- when things go wrong or the software gets updated.
|
Frustration
if having a problem setting up.
|
A
lot of times a network shares one Internet connection - if all computers
running at once, can reduce speed for each.
|
Area
covered is limited.
|
Special
security measures are needed to stop users from using programs and data that
they should not have access to.
|
Networks
are difficult to set up and need to be maintained by skilled technicians.
|
If
the file server develops a serious fault, all the users are affected, rather
than just one user in the case of a stand-alone machine.
|
Wired
and therefore more difficult to setup. Drilling holes in wall, running cables
in lofts etc, fitting sockets and redecorating. More expensive to set up.
More time consuming to set up. Not as flexible, can only use where there is a
socket - cannot use outside for example.
|
Wired
systems cannot be used in listed buildings.
|
Investment in
Higher Costs due to server systems.
|
More complex governance: need for administrators to Maintain and manage networks.
|
Poor scalability: the number of accounts and a large number of
computers will cause Difficulties in management.
|
The ability to Prevent attacks from
the internet no less by the firewall system specific.
